Japanese and Asian Physical Releases Fill the Gap

Updated: Aug 31, 2019

With the recent release of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney 123 for the Nintendo switch I was faced with buying it only in digital form in the US. Why was this my only option? Frustrated I looked for answers to find out that the Capcom was set to release a copy in Physical form for the Japanese market and even better it had an English translation. I quickly set about on where to order my copy and this is how I found PlayAsia.com. I was careful to order the correct version as it did have a funny name Gyakuten Saiban 123: Naruhodo Selection. Fortunately, the site is in English and some of the reviewers said it worked with out effort in their switch.

Once I settled on the product I wanted I found the order process was simple and even found a $3 off coupon online. My item arrived quicker then expected and I was able to play the Japanese physical version in English without issue on my Nintendo Switch. I did not even have to set up a Japanese profile. Once I loaded the game, I was also happy that the best version was already on the game card and I was able to give it an A rating for it's Legacy Score making this an idea item for a collector. However, beware that some products may require you to have the proper region so read your selection carefully.

Other titles have also received better treatment outside the US as well. The Japanees were treated to a physical version of the first Bayonetta game in the “Non-Stop Climax Edition”. Square Enix also recently released Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster (Multi-Language) in both Asia and Japan with both games on the Physical Cartridge. While again in North America we get a download code for one of the titles.

They also had the GameStop exclusive Katamari Damacy REROLL at a reasonable price, so if you would prefer to this title from someone other than GameStop here is your chance. This strange little game looks even more exotic with the title in Japaneese.

I don't know why Nintendo North America chooses to not provide these option in the US, but thanks to PlayAsia.com and other companies like these we collectors and people who prefer physical copies can enjoy these games at a reasonable price. Check out these titles:

I look forward to the arrival of my copy of Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster to show up, I just hope it has a good Legacy Score. Be sure to check back as I will post the score when my copy arrives. Where do you like to buy your imports? What other games got a got a better treatment outside of North America? Post your thoughts below.

Update: I received my imported Final Fantasy and have been enjoying the game a lot. And best of all I know my game is all on one cartage instead of having to download the X2. Playasia came through and supplied an excellent product.
